Daily Sketch - Sgt. Rock...

I've never had a chance to read much about this character. His fans are avid though and I've only ever heard great things about this long running title. Sgt. Rock just hit the right note at the right time. I think it must've been a passion project for Joe Kubert to be on the book for so long and to establish this character so well.

I was asked to do this commission and it was a lot of fun looking into the character and all the Kubert artwork. I wanted to capture the essence of the character, his subtle body language that conveyed who he was. It's a series I definitely want to go back and read!

Kid Flash...

This was a recent quick commission sketch. I don't typically just do pencil sketches, as I don't think they go much quicker than inking them myself. To me the inked drawing looks more finished. But this was for an inker who wanted to finish it himself. It's always fun, and a bit intimidating to do sketches for other industry professionals.

Also, this sketch exemplifies how I like to really pay attention to both age and power set of a particular character. To draw someone looking younger than a traditional super hero in their 20's or 30's you've got to thin out the body and apply less definition to their musculature and frame. Also as a runner, I wanted to suggest giving him that body type. My favorite artists always pay attention to this and Kid Flash seemed like a great chance to practice that approach.

Fun sketch, and as it didn't take me too long, I want to start offering these at cons as a more affordable sketch option.
